Ahmad Haruna, a shining example to Northern youth
Shortly after meeting Ahmad, my attention could not miss his glaring exceptional attributes; his religious uprightness; his striking humility; his exemplary obedience; his obvious brilliance; his amazing dedication and hardwork were sufficiently convincing that Ahmad was not a usual Northern young man. However, because of Ahmad's large framed body, I casually opined that he was probably older than his mates, and hence, I didn't attach much grandeur to his striking qualities, since they weren't unexpected in a mature person. Nay, Ahmad was only 21 years old, and about the youngest amongst his peers. And the sooner I learnt about Ahmad's age, the sooner I realized he was destined to be great (and he isn't yet).
I remember when Ahmad first registered for ICAN exams sometime in 2014, and how he virtually relocated to the tutorial center. He would, on weekends, spend the whole day at their study center, and return home to pray Magrib and Isha prayers, and go back to the center only to come back home for Subhi prayers. I once counseled Ahmad to take things easy and all he said was "sir, many people are better than me".
I also remember when results first came out and how heartbroken I felt when he failed. I said to him Ahmad, ICAN must have maliciously failed you since there was an allegation that Northern candidates were marginalized in ICAN. Again he simply smiled and disagreed, he said many people failed. When the next exam came, Ahmad completely disappeared. To cut the long story short, Ahmad is today the youngest Northerner to ever qualify for ICAN at a record age of 25 years. This is an uncommon feat.
We therefore must celebrate the triumph of our own, and urge our youngsters to emulate such noble examples from the illustrious sons of the North, and shun drugs, violence and laziness, which are holding us back as a region.
Lastly, I wish you more exceptional achievements my brother, for I believe you will attain more, and wish our upcoming youth the wisdom to look up to your example. Amen.
