I am daily bombarded with audio clips and some prose on why PMB administration is a failure or why he should not be elected again. Most of these criticisms come from politicians. I always listen to them or read them because there is always something to get educated from someone. Some of these criticisms are germane while some are not.
I am daily bombarded with audio clips and some prose on why PMB administration is a failure or why he should not be elected again. Most of these criticisms come from politicians. I always listen to them or read them because there is always something to get educated from someone. Some of these criticisms are germane while some are not.

This morning, I received an audio clip on my whatsapp from an elder, which was credited to one Tukur Mamu. I know Tukur Mamu as the Publisher of Desert Herald Magazine. In the clip, he accused PMB as a person, questioned his integrity and dismissed his administration as a fake. Since it is democracy, I have never cared much to respond to similar comments from politicians, but I decided to respond to this one since it is coming from someone who belongs to the fourth-estate-of-the-realm who are supposed to be impartial, balance and fair. PMB as an individual, or his Government as an institution are not infallible. But criticisms against them must be factual, fair and just.

He first of all, accused PMB of insincerity in his fight against corruption and cited the case of Sambo Dasuki and Lawal Babachir and stroke a comparison, saying the former is being victimised, while the latter is being favoured. He did not tell us, however, that Dasuki is not innocent, nor did he deny that the report on Babachir is being implemented. What he could only say was that PMB is implementing the report after failure to withstand pressure from the public.

He then accused the President of educating his children abroad and fly abroad for the treatment of his ailments as well. This is very mean and petty. Because there is no law that says a Nigerian cannot acquire education in another country if one of his/her parents is the President, provided the family can legally afford it. And PMB could afford that legally. And his children acquiring education abroad precedes his ascension to the Presidency, so why the fuss?. As for seeking medical attention abroad, Presidents of the Federal Republic of Nigeria shall continue to be so protected until we have a world class hospital of our own. And God's willing, we shall have before PMB completes his second tenure in office.

Mamu then, accused the President of closing the borders of Nigeria which, according to him, created pervasive hunger in the land. He said the action negates the compassion the President said he has for the masses. Since the President's wisdom is faulty in this regard, Mamu should have explain how we can grow our food and provide a market for it if we allow other Countries' junk to continue flowing into the country as experienced before the last two and half years. A common saying with our people is that one has to destroy the faulty foundation completely in order to build a strong and enduring one. This is the phase we are currently undergoing.

He also dwelt on the Maina saga and gave a swift verdict of guilt to the President because he also has little knowledge of the complex politics involved in the case. Although he claims to have enough evidence indicting the President, he simply went on swearing in the name of the Almighty that PMB is a culprit and he will prove that when PMB decides to declare for the Presidency in 2019. As a media man with facts at his disposal, I thought he will divulge the information thoroughly indicting the President beyond reasonable doubt. But he failed to.

His worst diabolic utterance in that clip was on Security. He was lamenting the deteriorating security situation on the popular Abuja/Kaduna highway kidnap episodes which seem to defy permanent solution so far. In his own wisdom, the situation is currently worse than the menace of Boko Haram. In fact, "we prefer to be left with the menace of Boko Haram than with what is happening today on that highway" That is exactly what the Guy says, and he is from Yobe State! Yobeans, I leave you with your son.

I have taken all this while to respond like this because the Mamu I know is universally identified as one of us, members of the noble journalism profession. But we all need to know that his weekly publication, The Desert Herald, is severally accused of libel from different concerned individuals and organisations. It is notorious for hasty publication of unconfirmed stories, sometimes from very questionable sources. This video clip has proven that this person, who, by intent and purpose, is clandestinely unethical and totally unprofessional by gathering information, interpreting it and presenting it without even an attempt at balancing same from the accused Party. But I am not really surprised because in the clip, he has made it clear that the attempt is to stop the President from a second term election in 2019. It is clearly evident he was contracted by politicians to do the hatchet job. He is no doubt, a clear example of the unethical media man.
